Are you getting much publicity about this?
Il Papa is here, lording it up at an Opus Dei retreat in rural Sydney.
He was going to apologise to the aboriginals until someone told his to mind his bleeding business & that he had enough on his plate with allegations of sexual abuse by his shepherds.
Its hard to beleive that there could be 500,000 at the sunday mass...at a racecourse.

I can just imagine Joe sitting on a stump, dressed in robes, mitre & red shoes...puffing on a Papastrasos.

Well chaos has reigned in the CBD since the pope arrived in terms of people having to rearrange work schedules etc because absolutely no cars allowed in most parts of the city with street closures.. My husband is working in a neigbouring suburb of Randwick today so i'm sure I will hear of the events on how he actually got there.
A local radio station ran some very interesting information about the Pope yesterday. Seems one of the security guards is friends with the host of said radio program and called to say he just took the Pope outdoors so he could chain smoke 3 ciggies and then went back inside. Not that there's anything wrong with that not something you would picture the Pope doing though... I'm sure it shattered many pilgrims images of him.
I thought it was funny

Yes, the current Pope seems to have to apologise wherever he goes for the years and years of sexual abuse imposed by his clergy upon the young and innocent. He had to apologise here and meet some of the victims. "Bring the little children unto me." The interesting thing is that whereas all the other churches in Canada that were involved in the awful residential schools for the native children have admitted fault and apologized along with paying millions to the victims, the Catholic church alone has not admitted fault and apologized. Very recently, the Prime Minister representing the Government of Canada, apologized to the native people for imposing the residential schools upon them and the damage it did to their lives and culture. Better late than never! Il Papa or Der Papa?

Thanks Richard...1000+, and probably that many again the victims of the fun police & the dreaded red pencil!!
The mass is at Randwick racecourse which is very close to Sydney CBD. It is "home" to 700 horses in training as well as being one of the finest racecourses in Oz. The horses & all associated with them had to be relocated for 6 weeks. The upheaval it caused is unbeleivable..and the cost does not bear thinking about.
Yes, the weather has been fine but maybe fire & brimstone on Sunday.

Funny enough the weather has been fine and sunny ever since the Pope arrived

Very little news about it in the UK except a federal court ruling saying that protesters can't be fined for annoying pilgrims.

Stay away from race courses, Geoff. They're not good for you. Oh, and congratulations on surviving 1000 postings.
