Posted - 27 June 2009 : 12:41:20 Hello all,
Just returned from our two weeks on Symi. Had a wonderful time and I did cope with the 15kg luggage allowance in the end.
Many thanks to Wendy, Adriana, Sue and David from the SV for looking after us. They did it so well that we have already booked to return in September (and June 2010!)
It was a bit of a bind having to get to the other side of the commercial harbour for the Proteous and it is a god foresaken spot. Adrianas advice about using a taxi was worth noting if you need to get to the same spot. It only cost us 5 euros from the town centre.
It was great to meet up again with Andy and Gill, Colette, Oor Willie, Heather and John and Cath and good to add to our Symi contacts Anthony, Ann and Mike and Eleanor Scott and Tony. We met a good few more but their names escape me.... sorry!
It was great to meet Eleanor and Tony as despite being in the same accomodation last June, we did not meet them but did make contact once we arrived home. Had two really enjoyable nights with them. Thanks guys! Hope you kept Yannis company in the Roloi Bar after we left
Like many of you we found prices higher than last year and did do more catering in our accomodation. We also used the water taxis much less this year.
Went on a day trip to Tilos and nearly got stranded there when the winds got up and we were told "no boat tonight" . We were so relieved when it did arrive 3 hours later and got us back to Symi at 12.30.
Used the water taxi to get to Maratounda and this was great as we got to see Agia Marina, St Nicks, St George and Nanou on the way. The cost was 12.50 euros each return but sunbeds were free. We had a very nice lunch in the taverna there and really enjoyed our day with entertainment provided by the goats.
Counting down now to our return in September. This will be our 4th visit and the first time we have managed 2 in a year. I think I will be out begging on the streets between now and September to pay for it |

Posted - 06 July 2009 : 06:46:10 Walked past Yanni's this morning about 8 ish. Fantastic breakfast menu on offer for 6 euros but no opening hours and the doors firmly closed.
On the other hand, apart from a handful of locals drinking coffee at Pachos I can't say I saw much in the way of potential trade in Yialos to warrant opening that early for breakfast... |

Posted - 05 July 2009 : 21:47:11 Hi Pam,
staying with Anastasia up in the village again and it's looking like I'll be there on the morning of 24th, will get the early Dodeconese Express rather than spend the day in Rodos.Just me this time, really looking forward to seeing everyone, we'll have to arrange a meeting venue nearer the time. |

Posted - 05 July 2009 : 15:23:11 I'm always up for anything Muppet. Look forward to seeing you at the airport (my flight is at 09.45 so you might still be waiting for your cases!) If not, certainly on the Proteus so we'll be able to have a drink or 3 before we arrive on Symi! I hope you don't take after Maziemoo and be 4 ouzos ahead of me before we meet! |

Posted - 05 July 2009 : 12:07:24 Hi Colette, That is great news. Where are you stopping? We were lucky to get a flight at 9am on the 23rd so if it is on time we should have no problem getting the 19.00 Proteus. What time are you flying and will you make the Proteus or will you arrive on Symi on 24th? Are Cath and John coming as well or just you? I think a Symi wave is a must. Kojak are you up for that as well? Eleanor...think you should empty the piggy bank and come back too |

Posted - 04 July 2009 : 23:32:23 Hi Pam and Martin and Kojak and co ,
I've weakened again and just booked for Sept 23rd for a week (night flight so after many a long year I will sail in to Symi in the morning again)Blame it on the red wine , but I am very happy, see you all there, this time we will do the wave

Posted - 04 July 2009 : 10:43:15 HI Eleanor, glad you had a good holiday and are back safely in tropical Scotland, I think Yannis' breakfast sign is his little joke as I don't think he does 7.30 am very often, I think he is more of a late night person |

Posted - 03 July 2009 : 19:23:15 Hi Oor Willie, we tried to vist Yannis quite a few times but found the bar locked. He had a sign on his door saying breakfast from 7 till 9am orange, coffee, toasties etc , but every morning for my last week I was down at 7.30am and the place was closed. When I say the bar was locked I dont mean the place was open with no sign of Yannis I mean the whole place was shut and locked up |

Posted - 02 July 2009 : 23:03:48 What friend? this is all new since we left 2 weeks ago, and Yannis not being there does not necessarialy mean the bar is shut, I went in at least 3 times when we were there used the computer poured an ouzo and left the money on the bar no sign of the man at any point. As for his breakfast I have seen no sign of it in 5 years |
