Are there any? I rather like them, but Elaine isn't exactly keen. What should we be keeping an eye out for? Are the tortoises poisonous? Are there any triffids? (PS: We've booked two weeks at the start of July in the Anastasia Studios. Can someone start chilling the beer, please?)

Snapperjon don't stress about things like that ,i think you have about as much chance in seeing a Killer Whale as you do in seeing a poisonous Tortoise ,snakes are about but they scatter before you see them, here is a link to some of the subject you want

I've been to Symi many many times, but only once seen a live snake. Was on the way to Nimborio almost 20 years ago (gawd I feel old)

On occasions I've seen dead snakes, killed by locals.

The only snake I'm terrified of is the one eyed

Don't argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

The tortoise on Symi are not poisonous and you don't see them very often in the town. You can meet them if you walk in the mountains. The biggest I have seen was about 35 cm and very cute. There are a lot of snakes, but as far as I know only one poisionous. Its like an adder, not very big.As Mille said you seldom see the snakes alive, the dead one you see in the town is often killed by cats. And can anybody tell me what triffids are. They are not in my dictionary.

If you think you are too small to make a difference, try sleeping in a closed room with a mosquito

Triffids - plants from outer spave that can move about and kill people. A very famous horror film "The Day of the Triffids" tells how they tried to take over the earth. I shall never look at my indoor ivy in the same light!

Thay SAY it's not a documentary, Snapperjon, but I should keep a close eye on any "vigorous" house plants if I were you...

Oh Kojak, that I know. I READ the book as a child, not sure I ever saw the film. But on Symi - not sure, maybe in the winter, Adriana will know, but in summer, no way, they are burned away.

Not all of them get burnt away Tove. The clever ones march round to Nimborio (At night, with a full moon, it's The Rules) to hide in the catacombs with only the odd passing haggis to sustain them until the cooler weather.

Allan, are you seriously saying that the Symi triffids can catch something as fast as a haggis? Sounds as if snakes are going to be the least of our worries. And are there any poisonous haggis on the island?

They still haven't found the one that vanished off the table at Pachos after Burns night. Be afraid, Snapperjon, be very afraid...

If you go down to Pedi today
You're sure of a big surprise
If you go down to Pedi today
You better go in disguise
For every haggis and triffid that ever there was
Will gather there for certain because
Today's the day Ginger Turkey has had his wings clipped

Yesterday is experience, tomorrow is hope... today is getting from one to the other.

A poisonous tortoise? Snapperjon, are you serious? I hope not...
As Mille said, the only snake you have to be wary of is the one-eyed one, commonly known as "The One-eyed Trouser Snake".
Ask Mazie, I think she had a rather alarming experience with one!

If this message causes confusion, my work here is done.

Triffids are cunning plants and wait until the haggii are docile in the hot weather before devouring them and leaving their bones in the catacombs to confuse the tourists.

The constant haggis diet seems to do them no harm although it does explain why you'll never see a triffid playing in a successful footbal team.

I had to make a quick get away down the Kalistrata one evening ....but you also have to be a little careful if sunbathing on the rocks just past Nos beach.

Unfortunately I wasn't aware of the fact that it is the 'unofficial' nudist spot at the time hence my excuse for inappropriately taking a friend's 8 year old daughter with me there for the afternoon and subsequently having to make a fast exit when she told me there was a man swimming nude nearby.

Alas swimming aint the only 'sport' they engage in there so looks like I'll have to find another peaceful spot to catch some rays when I get back .

Yesterday is experience, tomorrow is hope... today is getting from one to the other.
