Hello all,

Just returned from our two weeks on Symi. Had a wonderful time and I did cope with the 15kg luggage allowance in the end.

Many thanks to Wendy, Adriana, Sue and David from the SV for looking after us. They did it so well that we have already booked to return in September (and June 2010!)

It was a bit of a bind having to get to the other side of the commercial harbour for the Proteous and it is a god foresaken spot. Adrianas advice about using a taxi was worth noting if you need to get to the same spot. It only cost us 5 euros from the town centre.

It was great to meet up again with Andy and Gill, Colette, Oor Willie, Heather and John and Cath and good to add to our Symi contacts Anthony, Ann and Mike and Eleanor Scott and Tony. We met a good few more but their names escape me.... sorry!

It was great to meet Eleanor and Tony as despite being in the same accomodation last June, we did not meet them but did make contact once we arrived home. Had two really enjoyable nights with them. Thanks guys! Hope you kept Yannis company in the Roloi Bar after we left

Like many of you we found prices higher than last year and did do more catering in our accomodation. We also used the water taxis much less this year.

Went on a day trip to Tilos and nearly got stranded there when the winds got up and we were told "no boat tonight" . We were so relieved when it did arrive 3 hours later and got us back to Symi at 12.30.

Used the water taxi to get to Maratounda and this was great as we got to see Agia Marina, St Nicks, St George and Nanou on the way. The cost was 12.50 euros each return but sunbeds were free. We had a very nice lunch in the taverna there and really enjoyed our day with entertainment provided by the goats.

Counting down now to our return in September. This will be our 4th visit and the first time we have managed 2 in a year. I think I will be out begging on the streets between now and September to pay for it

If you should find yourself on the same flight as this lovely man, be warned he is very persuasive on the consumption front.....I should know I've nursed more hangovers en route to or on Symi in the short time I've known him (approx 2 years) than in the past 10 years all rolled in together!

Having said that we have had great fun along the way!

Yesterday is experience, tomorrow is hope... today is getting from one to the other.

Muppet! you've run out of luck! I'm travelling with Olympic so will be on a Monarch flight, flying at 09.45am. and probably on the 19.15 Proteus. If we don't meet up on the way I'd certainly love to meet up for a drink or 5. take no notice of Mazie the Ouzo monster. the first time we met she was 4 drinks ahead of me and that was only on the ferry!

And by the time we reached Symi and he'd finished plying me with the stuff, I could hardly walk.....good job George Kalodoukas took control and had me whisked away to my accommodation in a car....not sure I would have made it otherwise

Yesterday is experience, tomorrow is hope... today is getting from one to the other.

Welcome back Eleanor!
Have you come to terms with coming back yet? At least the weather has been good to come back to.
Thanks for two great nights on Symi. Did you go back to see Yannis after we left?
Speak to you soon.

Hi All Again, dont know why that went twice I must still be in Symi mode. When walking back from Nimborio on quite a few occasions met or rather saw Yannis with his friend on the rocks .... so no the bar war very rarely open. I even looked forward to his advertised breakfast but it was not to be. He must have been preoccupied (Pam) xx

What friend? this is all new since we left 2 weeks ago, and Yannis not being there does not necessarialy mean the bar is shut, I went in at least 3 times when we were there used the computer poured an ouzo and left the money on the bar no sign of the man at any point. As for his breakfast I have seen no sign of it in 5 years

And I'm back too - nice to meet all the usual suspects and a few new ones too. Maybe some new names will soon appear on the Chat?
Weather turned out nice again, didn't it?

How much deeper would the ocean be without sponges?
