| I just looked and from what I can see there is no 19.15 pm crossing for Proteus on Wed 21st when we arrive. We are landing at 3pm on Rhodes. Is there any other service or will we end up staying on Rhodes for the first night? |

| If your flight arrives too late to catch the Dodekanisos Express at 3pm, the Ierapetra L of ANEK lines leaves Rhodes at 10:30pm and arrives Symi at 11:55 pm on Wednesday 21st on its way to Piraeus. What I don't know is whether they will put you on it, or find you a hotel in Rhodes for the night and ship you across to Symi in the morning. |

| Thanks. I suppose I will just have to wait and see. If anyone is in contact with Ian the rep can you ask him if we will be in Rhodes the first night or coming across on the later ship at 10.30pm? Thanks. |

| On the plus side, if they do put you on the Ierapetra, it berths at the Clock Tower, right next to the Nireus, so there's no delay in getting to your accommodation. |

Which is just as well as midnight arrivals are always tricky transport wise...
Ian won't know until a few days before what his arrivals will be for that day or how they will get here as that is decided by the Rhodes office. |

| It's amazing that however you organise your holiday the timings can be so far apart. We will be up at around 4.30am that day to make it to the airport for what looks like a civilised 9.10am flight but still won't reach Symi until midnight. Don't think we'll be up for breakfast next day somehow. I'd rather an overnight in Rhodes at least we can rest and be fresh for next day but I'll just have to see what happens. Thanks for all your replies. |

Buzzy we travelled from n.e. Scotland and were two days there and two days back BUT when we got there all travel fatigue disappeared and we went for every minute on the island. I think you will find the same. Go on a water taxi to one of the beaches and chill and sleep on a sunbed for the first day then you are making use of your first day - don't stay in bed - symi is too precious to waste a minute. |

| Just booked my ferry tickets we are on the Dodekanisos Pride 08.30 on the 18th. So now here comes the question, our flight if it's on time arrives at 03.45 and given past experience we will probably be through the airport and in Rhodes Town for about 05.00 what is open near the harbour at that time in the morning where we can sit with our luggage and have a coffee or a snack and kill the three and a half hours till ferry time as being a miserable Jock I'm not booking a hotel for that short a time. |

There is an all night Swedish coffee bar not too far past the Konstantin Hotel which is just up from the Municipal buildings. I don't know the exact location (it was dark and in the middle of the night when we went there also) but I'm sure someone can help.

| ...Norms photo shows the Constantin (ringed). If you come out of the hotel and turn left (that is, towards the top of the photo) turn left at the top and I think it's 2 or 3 streets along, turn left and it's on the right... |

| Thanks guys I know where you mean, we've been around there before but not I admit at 5 in the morning, if nothing closer to Colona turns up we may well end up with the Swedish night owls |

The kiosk/caff at Kolonna opens very early because it serves all those little fishing boats nearby and fishermen are out and about at dawn. I have often fortified myself with a predawn cup of polystyrene coffee from said venue after catching the first flight in from Athens while waiting for the crew on the Spanos to wake up. |

On the minus side, the big boats are notorious for being late, as the departure time from Rhodes depends on what time they arrived and also on how long it takes to load vehicles in Rhodes (it's that same reason which causes delays on the outward run from Pireus with its many island stops). If you're catching that boat, be prepared for the possibility of arriving at Symi in the wee small hours!
But I trust that the gods will smile on you and all will be well. |
