| A catalogue of disaster, Eddy and yet you still managed to enjoy it. My friend Margaret, Willie's wife also reacts badly to mosquitos and always has a spray handy. One or two still get through though and the Rhodes mosquitos are a different and nastier breed altogether. Even Willie, who has never been known to be nibbled got several bites this year. Glad you got home safely. |

Wow Eddy i hope she is feeling better dosen't sound like the type of holiday i would like to have ,yeah my wife got maulled by mozzies in Rhodes ,funny enough they didn't like me but they got sweet revenge in Crete. I always found those electronic plug in things the best deterrent for mozzies at night. |

The mosquitos have been bad this autumn - it was that spot of early rain we had in mid-September that got them breeding again.
I've got used to the Symi mosquitoes now and seldom have anything more than a passing itch - but when I go back to Durban the Natal mozzies bring me up in huge welts so I have evidently lost my resistance to them.
The only thing I can say about Symi mosquitos is that they are usually so laid back it is quite easy to kill them whereas their tropical cousins have usually been in and out before you know what's hit you.

| Wow it's great to hear someone who still remains so positive despite all the set backs you had. Thanks for the info about the mosquitos. My husband gets a bad reaction to bites so we will take extra precautions now we've heard it's a problem. |

When we were over in September my son's girlfriend got bitten as did i but son and duaghter got through unscathed. Its the immune system fighting off the bite that causes the reaction. Best thing is slatherings of anti midge cream, plug in as Kon says and i believe if you take antihistamine orally it can help if you do get a bite. Hope you reamin bite free and have a great time. |

| I thought we'd get away with it going so late in the season. My husband gets bitten occasionally when we go to France. The French pharmacies are brilliant and developed a regieme for him so that he puts an antiseptic liquid on the bites to clean them then an antibacterial cream. This makes the inflamtion go down wihin 24 hours. Otherwise they end up like golf balls. So if so see "ole lumpy legs" waddling round the harbour you'll know we've arrived. |

good old Avon Skin So Soft (woodland fresh oil spray) keeps the mozzies away , dont know what the secret ingrediant is but it def works. Use it every year and not a bite in 10 years. (maybe I shouldnt have said that.. they will prob come and attack me next year bringing the last 10 year generations with them) help |

| Yep Eleanor, that's indeed true and it really smells sophisticated too. They also do soap and shower gel. |

| I agree about the Rhodes Mozzies! We didn't get bit once in Symi, but had a very early morning flight from Rhodes so was sat in hotel lobby til the pick up time at 4am, and we got bit to death, spent the flight home scratching like mad! |
Experience suggests it doesn't matter so much how you got here, as what you do after you arrive. |

Go along with the antihistamine before and during your stay. Also reiterate that it is the indivdual's immune system that reacts therfore defence is prerable to attack. Not only did my Symi bites itch but my Scottish bites from weeks before went into overdrive. Boy scout - he says - BE PREPARED> |

Hi Eddy, really glad you got home OK.I hope Sharon's on the mend and glad you are coming back next year, sounds like all the usual September suspects will be back, 22nd Sept myself, for 2 weeks next time as I'll then be retired I hope Sharon's managed a drink since she got home as 2 weeks in Symi with only 2 glasses of wine is more than should be asked of any woman. |
