I have at last finished processing the flower photos that I took during my March-April visit, and have posted a selection on Flickr. You can reach them as usual (and other sets including many of Symi) via my Flickr home page, http://www.flickr.com/photos/21006318@N04/sets/
Many well-known plants and flowers started off in the Mediterranean and were introduced later into the British Islands, first by the Romans and later by the Crusaders.
Spring botanising holidays are popular in Cyprus and Crete but only the determined make their way to Symi in March and early April as the weather is still unsettled (those flowers need the rain) and the ferry schedule erratic. However, as Anthony has proved with his photographs, if you are interested in flowers and have the time - and don't mind an occasional rainy day - the rewards are well worth it.
The secret to survival is a well developed sense of the ridiculous.
