Meeting some friends in Symi for a sailing holiday. I will be flying into Rhodes. Can anyone tell me how far the ferry terminal for Symi is from the airport, what the taxi fare is likely to be and what time the first ferry leaves in the morning.
The ferries leave from Rhodes Town which is about a 20 minute taxi ride from the airport. The fare is 18 Euro.
The ferry times depend on what day you arrive and the time of year. The timetables change regularly, particularly now at the end of the tourist season so you should check the websites of the two main ferry operators.
The Greek Ferry Timetables: http://www.gtp.gr/ might be worth checking out for the day i question as it will list the "big ferries" too. Enjoy your sailing!
The tragedy of life is not that it ends so soon, but that we wait so long to begin it. W.M.Lewis.
You need to tell the taxi driver which ferry you plan on catching - as the ferry departure points are dispersed across a very long stretch of Rhodes waterfront. Currently Symi II lesaves from Mandraki, Dodekanisos Pride and Express from Kolonna, and Proteus and Ierapetra from Akandia, but this might change as the winter sets in. The drivers normally have a very dood idea which ferry is where, and will ask the people on duty at the various gateways into the port areas if they are unsure.
