| I regret that I know so little about spider fashions. This one was nearly fully grown (about 9 inches across) so presumably knew his own style at that age. |
In Greece, time is merely an idea in the mind of God. |

| If I remember my Biology correctly I think that bit at the back is the abdomen - but any decent spider would insist on having it covered! |

Please, please, please do remember that whilst folks here are having a great deal of fun scaring the hell out of us poor folk who do actually have a problem dealing with these creatures , they are not in any way dangerous.
Well said Mazie
I spoke to someone yesterday who told me she had been put off visiting Symi for several years because she "had heard stories about Symi spiders". I'd hate to think she dissuaded by joke comments posted here.
Let's reiterate, these things are big by UK standards but are completely harmless and a lot more scared of us than we are of them. |

Yes Allan, I am sure everyone recognises a bit of leg pulling. Perhaps anyone put off going anywhere by the local creepies, human or otherwise, should really stay at home? |

| I have to agree with Trailer. Let's not tiptoe through life too delicately - it is pretty clear that it's a bit of gentle leg-pulling. |

Leg pulling it may well be, but there will still be people who will be worried about and put off by such such things and I dare say there are plenty of people who choose not to venture outside of the UK for that very reason.
If someone has a genuine fear, rational thinking doesn't always come into the equation so a little consideration needs to be given to this.

Oh, and be especially careful of . One end bites and the other mucks up yer new hols sandals!
For goodness sake, isn't there enough PC rubbish in this world already that has just about crushed and stifled everything there is to crush and stifle. Perhaps we should introduce a humour monitor to ensure we are not stepping outside that considered acceptable by some on here eh? |

I, for one, would simply stop posting here if I had to consider that there was a very small chance that something clearly said in fun might just upset someone somewhere. Perhaps the Moderators can remove the whole posting and we can confine ourselves to talking about the weather. - Except, of course, that lots of people are frightened of thunder.... Once you start down this track, where do you stop? There are donkeys on Symi, but some people are frightened of them too... |

Yes, some folk should not be allowed to venture further than the end of their street..
Wait until they hear about the deadly one-eyed trouser snake that awakes from its slumber in september each year!! |
If this message causes confusion, my work here is done. |

Mazie IS right.
My yongest son is terrified of spiders, of all sizes and he really freaks out when he sees one.
OG, I didnt know te one- eyes trouser snake was deadly? I assumed it could cause a fate worse than death |
Don't argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience. |

| I am terrified of spiders. My son is terrified of spiders. My husband is terrified of spiders. My third cousin down the road in the next street is terrified of spiders and so is the lady in the local sweet shop. But that's not quite what being discussed here right now!! If we exercise the wimpy woo extreme sensitivity being suggested here, as Kojak says, we might just as well all pack it in and just not bother. |

Wow...hold on a minute...I don't actually recall saying we shouldn't talk or joke about spiders...in fact what I said was that they are harmless, so not to let it put people off visiting the island, which I think is a long way from what is being inferred by people here. I also joined in some of the banter that followed on from it.
That having been said, if you've ever witnessed the sheer terror displayed by some people at the sight of them, you might be tempted to think again.
One day I was called by a friend to come and rescue her and her daughters as they were "trapped in the bedroom" by a spider. I wondered across the road to the rescue, expecting to see something of tarantula proportions doing a goal keeper impression at the bedroom door. Alas the reality was of something much smaller but none the less a good size. But they were stood in the middle of a double bed clinging on to each other as though their life depended on it....made for a comical scene but they truly were petrified.

Mazzie - you are just entirely missing the point of the discussion. Never mind. Some of us geddit, and some obviously just don't. We'll just carry on and you can remind us how inconsiderate we are at various points in time! |
