When I visited in April/May I saw whole bushes covered in them....at the time I thought they were crickets or grasshoppers, but having now found out they are locusts, gosh I think Symi will have a problem then as practically every bush I saw on my walks between Yialos and Nimborio was covered !

Yesterday is experience, tomorrow is hope... today is getting from one to the other.

Ah Kojak! Now you are getting at the reality of Scotland and the Scots. For generations the Scots experience has been Educate and Emigrate! Eventually it has resulted in nationalism and a determination for the Scots to decide their own destiny. The generally accepted estimate is that there are four times as many Scots outside Scotland as within it. The population of Scotland in 1900 was almost identical to that in 2000 at five and a quarter million. Some of the emigrants didn't go further than England, which has recently been "blessed" with Blair, Brown and Darling. Education in Scotland has historically been a priority. Four Universities when England had two, a school in every parish and free education following an Act by the Scottish Parliament in 1697. England caught up in 1875. Today as you have noted, education remains a priority for the Scots. Only one of my four children lives now in Scotland following prolonged periods in other countries. But her two children may have the good fortune to be able to pursue careers in Scotland rather than having to emigrate. As I have previously commented, I think that the English should support Salmond. After all, if he is successful, Scots M.P's. will no longer serve in Westminster. Go on Kojak back a winner!

Just because you didn't see the great hairy spiders, Vickie, doesn't mean they weren't there. They were probably hiding under the bed waiting to creep out at night....

They're just lulling you into a false sense of security Vickie2008. I have it on good authority that they're waiting for your next visit!
