Hello Beany, (Whats all this crap about) bit of a attitude there I would say. This is not a personal thing, not by me anyway. My point is this, To a lot of people and (I am one of them)the English bar or the Welsh or Irish bar abroad is to be avoided at all cost. Most people visit a foreign country for the ambiance the culture (and the sun) and to be in a foreign environment, not to eat pie & mash or Fish& Chips and drink Newcastle brown ale,( I am not saying your bar is like this)I have not visited your bar and would probably not be welcome after this letter. What I am saying is that when British bars start to open on beautiful Greek islands like Symi or anywhere else abroad its the start of the slippery slope to the ruination of that particular Paradise. As far as the England shirt is concerned it is to a lot of people synonymous with football hooligans and larger louts. The British abroad have a terrible reputation these days, this is mostly due to the behaviour of so called England football fans. I for one am ashamed to admit that I am British when I am in foreign climes these days, and a lot of people I know are of the same disposition.I am not someone who only has 2 weeks abroad a year,I have spent the last 30 years at sea and I have traveled around the world many times, I have seen the total ruination of most of the Caribbean Islands by the cruise industry, you can travel from island to island and all the shops are the same selling the same things to the Thousands of passengers who herd ashore each day. Symi is a spacial place to me, and I hope it will always stay that way. There is an old proverb that says Patriotism is the last refuge to which a scoundrel clings Regards Welshpirate

| Hi Paul, You carry on wearing any shirt you like , my remarks on the other thread were truly tongue in cheek, as for some remarks made above about English / British bars in foreign places, I think the writer has to learn to differentiate between what he means by a "British Bar" and a Greek bar owned and run by British people. I don't think there is a "British Bar" anywhere on Symi there are however a few bars owned by British and other non Greeks and it is only human nature that visitors of the same nationality as the owners tend to use these bars quite a lot, this does not mean that Symi is becoming the next Faliraki, and anyway I have had 2 very good holidays in Falaraki in the past few years and it is not as bad as it's painted, as a matter of fact in 2004 when we visited both Falaraki and Symi it was Symi which was the livlier place. |

| willie//// it takes somone like yourself to understand Symi....IM english , this is true but my children are greek! my bar is by no means a eng bar as you so rightly point out.{thanks will} its a welcome watering hole for all people .EXCEPT people who dont know what there talking about and gossiping about trash ,.Dont be misslead when in a vast percentage of bars that your being served by greeks cos this is not the case{anywhere in greece} Most of the waiters are albanian, russian, or bulgarian{fact} . So my friend it might be a good idea for you to visit our bar/restaurant and see the different clientell and then you can form a opinion.YOU HAVE NEVER MET MY FAMILY OR I SO DONT COMMENT ON US///. To prove a point visit, observe, take in the atosmosphere then comment.I have made a point of talking to people as regards the attire i wear and they find it amusing that such petty minded people form a stupid opinion of people///////I have done my best to keep this in a civil manner BUT trust me if you paint a picture WITHOUT knowing me it just shows you should be treated with the content you disserve. |

Paul - I don't know you or your bar. And not a great deal about the hospitality business from a provider's end. But really, you are doing yourself no favours at all. And neither are your 'friends' on here. You could be alienating a lot of would-be customers. Not good for business eh? If I were you, I'd stop digging now, whilst you're ahead! Just.
That’s always assuming of course that you are, who you say you are.

beany/paul has already apologised in his thread "I stress my apolls".
Since he has been generous enough to make that apology, depite some very personal comments about his hospitality etc., I think it would be gracious for folks to accept that apology and allow this thread to resort back to some form of civility.
I doubt many of us would feel inclined to respond politely when finding ourselves under attack let alone on what is a public website.
I think it would be a nice gesture to give beany/paul the benefit of the doubt. |
Yesterday is experience, tomorrow is hope... today is getting from one to the other. |

The difference being, Mazzie and Allan, that 'Paul' is the only one likely to lose by it all and who is keeping it going. And with all due respect to you both, (of course), despite earlier 'appols' I suggest you have another look at just who is being aggressive in this particular thread, because frankly 'Paul's' attitude would put me entirely off visiting his establishment. He is in danger of engendering the same feelings in others. Hence my comment, just as relevant as yours, although of course not as holy, remains - stop digging eh? Err - mate.
And Mazzie - there is nothing 'uncivil' about my post. Good bit of advice actually, which 'Paul' might be wise the heed. If he is, who he says he is. |

I think you may be confused by the timings on this subject which seems to have spread across three threads.
Paul's last post in this thread was two days ago. I think, if you read yesterday's posts by Paul in the "Just got back" and "I stress my appolls" threads you'll find that not only has he "stopped digging" but offered a very gracious apology.
Paul (and yes it it Paul) isn't the one "keeping it going". |
