Although I never had the pleasure of meeting the lady in question, I'm sure I'm not alone in expressing great sadness at the untimely passing away of Helene Ingrand.

I had a friend who suffered from Guillain Barre Syndrome many years ago, a very frightening and cruel thing to have to deal with. She was in her early thirties with a young family, so as you can see it has no respect for age or circumstances.

I'm sure all of us will have met personalities during our lives whom we feel have truly helped to make the world a better place....Helene sounds like exactly one of those types of people. It's always a great privilege to make such friends and aquaintances.

My thoughts and best wishes go to all her family and friends whom I'm sure will take considerable time to come to terms with the loss of such a lovely person.

Yesterday is experience, tomorrow is hope... today is getting from one to the other.

Helene was certainly a striking person and I'm sure most regular visitors will have seen her out and about on Symi even if, like me, they never had the pleasure of meeting her.

I know she was a very dear friend to many on the island and my heart goes out to Helene's family and all her Symi friends.

As Adriana says in her diary, it was an untimely passing but at least she died at home on the island she loved rather than in a hospital bed.

We will be ringing the bells for her at 6 p.m on Friday 22 August and those of her friends currently on the island are going to meet at Pachos.

I was shocked and saddened to hear about the untimely passing of Helene Ingrand. I know I have never actually spoken to Helene, but she was always at Aghia Marina and seemed such a lovely person. I remember she was so happy when she got her wee red dinghy and was showing it off to everyone.

My friend's aunt is suffering from Guillain Barre Syndrome at the moment and has been for some months now. She is making very slow progress. As you say Maziemoo it is such a awful and frightening condition.

I know I didn't actually know Helene in person, but I send my heartfelt sympathies to her family and friends. She will be greatly missed.

I didn't know Helene but my thoughts go to her family and friends.

A beautiful and moving tribute to her on the diary page. I never met Helene, but it sounds like she will be greatly missed by many.

Experience suggests it doesn't matter so much how you got here, as what you do after you arrive.

Helene's family has asked me to thank you all for your kind thoughts at this difficult time.

We are holding a tribute to her at Pachos at 6 p.m this afternoon to which anyone on the island who knew her is invited.

I am sure it was a very moving affair and held with huge dignity.

I don't know if this will help Helene's family but I hope it does - I heard about her passing whilst on Zakinthos last week, Marcia is also thinking of Grand Helene, she is remembered by all who met her.
