The BIG question is what can turn night into day in a milli second ? Probably the biggest event in Symi for years.NO ONE captured this event except guess WHO ? ME, Last night at exactly 2359,58 secs a meteor past not over but through Symi.It wizzed by so fast that no one had chance to film it But today Mike Gadd and i checked out my cctv at the bar and guess what ////WE got it. We have captured the bright light and speed that it lit the whole of pedi as it shot throgh { fantastic site }. Everyone is talking about this bright light that took Symi by storm .We have d,loaded from my cctv and is going to be shown soon. Paul.

| Why did Mike whizz through Pedi so fast? Why didn't he even stop for a beer? I'm glad you caught him on film and look forward to seeing the results. |

I'm surprised there is not more interest in this, I am most intrigued. Has Mike managed to get the film up on line? Paul, when you said it went "not over, but through Symi" does that mean it followed the contours of the island, like around corners & up hills? That being the case it looks like it had some sort of control.. As you say, interesting stuff & I look forward to hearing more. Thanks.. |

| I have been waiting for the video link or pictures as well OG, was hoping the pictures or video if anybody got it, would have been up by now...due to the clouds and rain here in the South of England we have not been able to get our fix of the annual display of "shooting stars" which we see very cleary in August usually (loads of them)...we even do sad things like laying out on the sunbeds at night (after consuming a bbq and "small" amounts of wine) watching them and counting the satellites going over and seeing having a competition as to who sees the spacestation first...but not this year miserable weather (and I hope everybody in the North are safe and dry) but roll on October and Symi again...sigh...I can almost taste the retsina.. |

Friends and I have done that too Poppet though I think it must be at least three summers ago now since we enjoyed a warm enough evening to do it ...well one when we were all able to get together that is.

| Managed to do it last year as we were in Tuscany for the end of August beginning of September (for a change - we rather liked it being in the countryside and up high we had already been to Greece -11 islands in a month and a half - and managed to do a week in Symi as well)The sky there was so clear and no invasion of city lights amazing how much more you can see - but then my hubby said it might have been the Lemoncello helping as well... |

| The meteor was seen over Halki on that night too -it was on the local news -apparently it went into the sea and was about the size of a walnut |

A walnut? What do you mean, Liz? There are only 2 walnut shaped things I know of, they are the walnut itself and the male prostate gland..so they say!
You are right about the stars, with no pollution or background light there are literally billions of them, the evening star in particular stands out like a beacon. It is hard to envisage that there is not any other form of life, as we know it, out there in that infinity. |
