Are you planning to get married again, Willie and if so, does Margaret know?

Well Joanie, as you may know, here in Canada we hold Thanksgiving and in keeping with tradition, we eat T.U.R.K.E.Y. So, that reminded me of my old adversary, that great big GINGER brute in the Pedi valley. So I thought I ought to check up on things. Then I found out that there was some confusion about Turkey on the Symi web site, so then I thought I would put in my tuppence worth. Didn't realise that anyone would miss me. So, I am touched. No Kojak, touched in a sentimental sense, not in the old aged senseBUT, I do hope that all greekophiles noted that TODAY, the Olympic flame was lit at Olympus and is now on its way to Canada, where the plan is to take it from coast to coast to coast being carried in turn by some 12,000 runners before it arrives in Vancouver for the opening of the Winter Olympics. For anyone who is curious about it, we use that expression "from coast to coast to coast" representing the Pacific, Arctic and Atlantic oceans

Heard a report today that on his way back from the flame lighting ceremony in Greece, the Mayor of Vancouver is visiting one Boris, Lord Mayor of London. This apparently to enable London to benefit from the experiences of Vancouver. Vancouver has several slippery slopes related to the games, but the biggest is SECURITY. The word is that the Federal Government will have to stump up $900,000,000 additional dollars for security. This of course was not included in the budget for the fun fest. I think it could be correct, as sitting here 1,100 km away, I was asked if I was interested in joining a security team. Thank goodness we only have the Winter Olympics. Wonder what security will cast the U.K. taxpayers in 2012 Wasn't it Anthony Blare who went all the way to Singapore to beg for the Summer Olympics I suppose that as European President he will get a front row ticket. Maybe the Brits should press for him to be paid in poundlets not Euros

One hell of a lot . And I was reading in the paper a few days ago that construction of the stadium is planned to be completed a year in advance, so that they can use it for other events which (they hope) will constitute a thorough test that things actually all work. Problem is, that apparently means that a full security team must be on site for the whole of that year: another VERY expensive thing that nobody had thought of budgeting for!

MUCH better to adopt the Greek approach and not finish building the damn thing until (as I recall) a week before the Games start!
